Dropdown menus don't work on MAMP

I am working on my second website using a template from Themeforest. I have downloaded MAMP & am setting up the site on a local server as the domain is connected to an already established site. I plan to use a FTP to upload the site when I am done. Unfortunately the dropdown menu buttons do not work in the editor of wordpress. When I switched themes, the problem persisted, so I do not believe the problem is with the theme. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Please help!
