• Just tried DreamPress at DreamHost – 4 hours lost.
Had issues with Jetpack, with Varnish and with CloudFlare. Waited 25 minutes for their “live chat” support.
The tech support guy explained that these things work better with some hosts than others – ok, I’d buy that except that [1] these were part of DreamHost’s “optimized” setup and [2] Dreamhost promotes their ability to support all WordPress plugins.

  • The fact is most hosts claim to be optimized for WordPress but in reality every set up needs to be tuned separately in terms of PHP and especially theme setups and the way different caches work with it. When somebody claims that they are compatible with all plugins. That’s just can’t be true b/c there’s no way for them to test them all.
Basically look for a specialized host that gives you multiple PHP versions that you can fully customize. Another thing is most hosts don’t want to do application support b/c it’s time consuming and they just need to sell as many accounts as possible, hence there’s never good application support.
