With that said, if anyone has an idea of why it's complaining about code in core widgets.php, I'm interesting in hearing about it.
Perhaps there's a problem with your use of register_sidebar(). I've never had this issue in my themes and (obviously) I use register_sidebar() all of the time.
Thanks, definitely will try to simplify my register_sidebar() call first and see if it fixes it. I've never tried using the theme testing plugin, but I guess I'll start now.
The Theme Check plugin is a great tool! Not only does it highlight issues but it offers suggestions for replacement code in most cases. Definitely a must-have for any theme developer, in my opinion.
