I have been struggling for a week with WordPress since switching over from Blogger.

I used to be able to just post my podcast into the body of my post using the standard "a href" tag, but now that seems impossible.

What the link ends up pointing to is some weird address morph that results in a 404 error:

    "mywebpage.com/mint/pepper/orderlist/downloads/download.php?file=http%3A//www.mypage.com/mp3/mypodcast.mp3"

Everything after "file=", less the "%3A" is correct. Everything before is something I have never seen before.

This happened before using PodPress and after the install too.

Here is a link to show you what I mean...

Also, I try to change the way the permalinks are managed to date and name based, but it seems to always go back to default.

Do you have the visual rich editor turned on?

    Yes. I did.

I just turned it off and saved the post again. Doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

Just turning it off doesn't "clean" your garbage code added by the RTE. If you insert code in your posts - never turn it on!
And now try to redo you post with new clean code.

Tried to do a "fresh post" with the RTE turned off...

    Same problem...

    Here's the new post...

Those strange URI elements have to come from somewhere - from some wrong settings in the blog, in the plugin... wrong code in your post.
What is the code you are adding to the post?
(put it in between backticks ` - one in front, one after)

What do you have in the Podpress admin page under General settings > General Options in the "URI of media files directory" field?

What happens if you clear/delete the cached pages...? since the WP-Cache is activated on your site.

All that mint/pepper/orderlist/downloads/download.php?file portion has to be added by some setting/file of yours.
    .htaccess?
    Permalinks?
short and sweet index? (in the WP root)

Also, you have a redirect kindd do thin, the WP install is in a subfolder, not at the root... so quite a number of potential mistakes/errors.

Good lord. I have no idea what any of that means. All I wanted to do was post a podcast and have a cool theme.

    What should I do first?

I've gone to my plug-in page and noticed that wp-cache has been deactivated. (I actually did that earlier today when troubleshooting and forgot to turn it back on.)

What's .htaccess? Where is located? What do I do once I locate it?

Get rid of that theme! It has a spyware:
"Beware! This theme has a spyware, mint (haveamint.com), embedded in it! It’s the script in header.php . It will pass to Ed Merrit all the information about what your visitors visit, search, etc."
