Downloading a theme.... (5 posts)

Hi, I am very very new to WordPress and am absolutely clueless when it comes to building my site. Anyway, I have WordPress installed courtesy of a helpful 'Install4free' WordPresser but have since left everything idle for a year.

I want to start building my site now and am struggling to change the theme, I download them from the relevant area to wp-content/themes but nothing appears in my available themes section.

I get the feeling that there would be little reason why anything I save from the internet would automatically appear on my site, that would seem impossible to me so I'm flummoxed.

Frankly it is likely to be something massively obvious so nobody should worry about 'dumbing-down' as it were, I am probably missing something.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Regards

When you saved the theme to your themes folder, did you unzip them? The theme download needs to be unzipped.

Did you preserve the folder names or just expand all the files into the themes folder?
