I want to have a download section in my site. While all visitor can download without registration, I would like to know the statistics of the downloads.
It would be nice if this can be implemented. Or did I miss it in my search?

WordPress is not a CMS, and so it is not possible to have a "Downloads" section, or statistics related to downloads off the shelf. I beleive a hack or two could help you determine the number of hits/visits to an entry, but to track downloads we first need a download section, and a different hack :)

Any suggestions on current plugins (or perhaps using the Pages functionality) for a downloads manager?

Just saw this. Actually I'm using a php script that was modified by the ever so versatile Chris J Davis. Erm not sure if/when he's planning on releasing it. As this is completely his I've got no right to release it. PHP however doesn't end with wordpress, it doesn't even start here, there's a WORLD out there with some great scripts. I only realised this after Chris sent this off to me.
