Download Portal

I am new to WordPress and I don’t know if this will be the best section to post my question.

I would like to make a download portalsite which is similar to any download portal you might know such as download.com, zdnet, softonic, etc.

I have attempted to do this with Joomla and while it’s a good tool, the lack of help and support for the download tools I couldn’t continue.

I am mainly looking for a download portal where I can have product description with some extra fields like the OS, Language, Kind of License, number of downloads, ratings, etc. Being able to categorize them into different sections.

Is WordPress suitable for this? If so, is there any hints you can provide me?
