Download library? (2 posts)

    Hi,

I am completely new to WordPress. Anyway, I have my webpages based on old version of PostNuke and I'm looking for a different system to run it on.

I tried WordPress as one of the wide spread systems and quite like it. Anyway, with my current web pages I have a part of it that I am looking how to solve in WordPress, and I have not found anything yet.

This part is "Download library" or "Download area". In there I can register different files for downloads (I use mostly PDF files, but in general it does not matter). These files have a title, description, category (two level tree), of course they have a link (URL) to the actual file. Then there is a counter (automatically updated), how many times the file has been downloaded. And of course visitors can leave comments on the files and they can even rate them (1-5 stars).

Then, usually, the website contains a like "Downloads" or similar in its main menu, where you access the downloads sorted into categories etc. Then there are some advanced views, like most downloaded files, best rated files etc.

Is a functionality like this available for WordPress? Via some plugin or something else?

    Thank you. Take care,

    Honza

Downloads are simple to do in WordPress. Write a post, add a file, insert into editor.

If you want to track downloads etc, you need a plugin like
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/downloads-manager/
That was just a quick search I did. Go to http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins and see what else there is.

I remember PostNuke :) Man, that was a pain to set up.
    You'll love WordPress!
