   i go to edit the appearance elegant-grunge theme,in the page set-up I put the double right sidebar up and save changes

   it takes me to a wp-admin page and when i go back to the appearance page the page set-up is back to the right sidebar.

   why won't this take?

   Have you tried deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
