   Report I tested Wp3.4.2 + Buddypress 1.6.1,

   I write in Widget
   <?php echo "test"; ?>

   PHP Code Widget 2.1 Don't work.

   But, Exec-PHP work.

   The PHP Code widget works fine for me. Not sure what you're doing wrong.

   Make sure you're using a PHP Code widget, not a Text widget.
