I just want my Featured Image for my post to be the image you click on to enter the actual post. I don’t want the image to appear at the top of the post when you go to look at it. How to I remove the Featured Image from the post while keeping it on the home screen?

How did you add the image to the post? Did you click the Add Media button? What you should do instead is add it using the Featured Image section down the right-hand column. If you don’t see a Featured Image section, click on the Screen Options tab in the upper right corner of the Post editor, right next to the Help tab. A section will drop down. Make sure the Featured Image box is checked. Then scroll down until you see the Featured Image section on the right. Add your Featured Image that way, and delete the image that you inserted into your post. Save your Update. Hopefully, the image will be gone from the post, but should still appear on the home page.

I deleted the post and re-did it and it still is doing the same thing. I have one image uploaded for the Featured Image and a different image on the post by using the “add media” button, but when you click on the post the Featured Image is still at the top of the post with other image under it. The Featured Image does not appear when I go edit the post either – it just appears on the right column where it should be.

I actually figured it out. When I inserted both imaged the Format on the right changed from “standard” to “image”. All I had to do was click it back to standard!

Great, glad you were able to figure it out. The only design suggestion that I have is to convert the image on the post page to actual text. There are a couple of reasons for doing this. First, an automated reader won’t be able to read the text inside the image, because it’s a picture and not actual text, making it less accessible for the sight-impaired. Second, search engines won’t be able to index the contents properly because, again, it’s a picture and not text. For example, someone doing a search on “parasite crash pad” won’t be able to find this page. I don’t know the purpose behind that particular post, maybe you’re posting it as a sample of your work so those aren’t concerns you have, but I thought I’d just point them out.

I am having this identical problem; I can read how missallisonwood fixed the problem, only I do not see “standard” format or “image” format. Help, please?
