Don't want checkboxes in my category list (7 posts)

I've poured all over the site and codex and can't find an answer. I tried posting B4 and could not get a resolution.

    Here goes again.

When folks post to my blog (I have multiple users) they get an ugly list of categories. I want to give them a simple drop down menu.

    Here's a pic for reference:

What I would like to achieve is in the raised area on the image.

    please help... pleeaaaaaaaaseeeeeeeeeee

The first one does, I believe, exactly what you want. Copy from the example and replace the ones you hate with the new ones.

I think my PHP skills are sorely lacking, yes the first one creates a nice dropdown, but only of the categories with posts in them.

I need to list all categories.

It won't display the categories until at least one post is posted for each category. Why you want empty categories is beyond me. But if you really need it make a single post to each category with just the category name in it. Then they will all show in the menu.

The reason I need all categories displayed is that I'm using this in the "Write a post" page so that foks can simply select a category form a dropdown instead of having to use the default checkbox system.

Most of mu users are getting confused with the chackboxes, and it just plain looks ugly.

Well simply making a starting post in each category will allow you to achieve what your after. Maybe just put a little blurb about the category so it look like it's supposed to be there.
