Don't need password to log in after upgrade above 3.2.1 (5 posts)

I upgraded from WP 3.2.1 to WP 3.3.1 and I no longer had to type in a password to log in. If I don't use any plugins... just wp-login.php.. the password field is disabled and I can log in with just the username. If I use WP-Members with or without Theme My Login, I can type in the password field but it doesn't matter what I type.

I put the site back to 3.2.1 and it works normally in all cases.

    Anyone else hit this?

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    - re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

In the process of working thru plugins. Did fresh install of 3.3.1 and 3.3 and had problem. Went back to 3.2.1 and was ok. Suspect incompatibility of 3.3 with something. Wanted to see if anyone else had hit it to direct me which might be the key. Thanks!

Also wanted to let people know because it's not an obvious issue. You think you are typing the right pw and getting in.

Problem almost solved. Turns out to be something in a custom function in a child theme. So just a reminder to all to check all the way down the road. Deactivating all plugins didn't work. Changing main themes including updating the theme and its framework didn't work. Now that I've isolated it to something really custom all is well in a bigger sense from what I can tell.

    Thanks for the checklist.
