Maybe an idea for your plugin, I applied the fix to the old version of the plugin (I'm still running WP 2.0, and it works good for me):

Have a blog with over 500 posts, and generating the sitemap every time I modify a post makes it all very slow, but not any longer :)

Hi snakefoot,
thanks for your suggestion! But what's with the "lastmod" value which tells the search engines that your post has actually changed and they should reindex it?
BTW, did you try the new version of the plugin? It should be faster than the old 2.7x release so upgrading might minimize the delay. I've set up a test blog with about 4000 posts on an smaller virtual server and it took about 1.5 seconds to complete.
Best regards,
Arne

Seldom want to ping Google and the other buddies, when just correcting a comma or a sentence (ping spam ?)
But I want to ping google, when my pages changes url or status. Usually I make new posts on a regular basis, and then all other updates are visible.
