You can already do that on plugins. Not everyone uses it.

Very cool to see, Ipstenu, but I guess having that link/button consistently placed and handled would be helpful – you know – make it easy for people to find and make that donation.
It’s somewhat of an interface design request to have some consistency to make it easy for people to donate – across the board! As soon as people have to “think”, the chance for a change of heart comes into play.
Haha – I’d like to be able to not think and give money to people who make my job easier, and don’t want it to be a job to figure out where to go to do that. I request to make it beneficial to the plugin and theme authors as well as myself.

It is consistently placed. If it’s there, it’ll be right where mine is. That is a default from WordPress’s repo 🙂
Not all plugins want donations so not all have it. Some put it on the back end of their plugins so you see it when it’s installed.

I guess authors that don’t put that in there may be missing out. It seems like it would be good to have it both on the plugin page on WP.org, as well as within their plugin, etc.
