I'm getting ready to take a stab at inst WP, 2.8.4.
I read in one of the forums that you should register your domain with one provider, and then have your site hosted on another provider? Is this a standard procedure? I would think if you did both with one provider, it would be simpler.
Any thoughts?
Makes no difference as long as the DNS is setup correctly. Some people prefer one way or the other.
I'm happy to register with the same company that I host with.
I'd 2nd what numeeja said, but offer this caution--some providers offer a package that includes domain registration and hosting so you might be required to stay with that company for a specified time period.
No matter what you do, read and follow WordPress Backups!
I have heard that some web hosting companies will offer you a "free domain" when you sign up for web hosting. Or that they will act as a registrar for you as well as being your web host.
I prefer to keep my eggs in several baskets. I've heard of disreputable web hosting companies holding people's domains hostage or people finding out years after the fact that the domain they thought they owned is actually owned by their web host.
I recommend Godaddy as a domain registrar; there are many great web hosting companies out there that offer good hosting packages.
