Support » Networking WordPress » Domain Mapping or Multi Network

  • Hi,
I am very confused on which product to use.
I have a main test site putzle.com, where I’ve created several other test sites as: blog.putzle.com. Now I have a real client, who I have registered their domain name and pointed it my Apple Snow Leopard Server. For now I have setup a redirect to the blogname.putzle.com but I want the users to go the blog as their registered domain name.

Can I do this using some tools, or can I run another install of wordpress, as single site alongside the multi site?
Whichever is the easiest way would be great.

    Thank You
PS In a previous post it was mentioned I have a localhost installation and I’m not sure how I did it that way. There is a dedicated ip for the server but it’s run behind one-to-one nat. Needless to say if need direction.

  • Is the client expecting subdomain blogs with their domain name?

if yes, give them their own network. Can use the multi network plguins or do them their own install.

if not, just use domain mapping.

Hmm that’s a good question, I hadn’t thought about it. Right now it’s set up like a traditional site @ vikinglodge3683.putzle.com.

I have the domain mapping plugin installed but cannot get it to work.
I lose the main site, only. I also have the multi network plugin installed but I cannot get to it nor delete it.

I think I made a mess. Is there anything I can do to repair it?

Remove the plugins via ftp and try again. Also note the installation instructions on those plugins – they do not go in the /plugins/ folder and you cannot get them to work when installing them via the admin area.
