Domain Mapping not working (10 posts)

    Hi,

I have setup a Multisite installation successfully.
I am just in the process of setting up a domain mapping (as a test before I do it in earnest).
The main domain is domain1.co.uk. Via CPanel I have added an addon domain domain2.co.uk which is where the WordPress site is hosted.
    Within domain2.co.uk I have created a test site, domain2.co.uk/test
I have domain3.co.uk created and pointing at the correct nameservers and parked under domain1.co.uk
I have installed and activated the domain mapping plugin and have got all the files in the correct locations. I can see the plugin available in Users on the test site and in Tools on the Network admin site.
I have mapped domain3.co.uk to domain2.co.uk/test and made it primary.

However when I try to access the site via the domain I just get a '500 Internal Server Error'. I have tried all sorts of things from various posts and the only improvement on this is when I get directed to the root directory of domain1, which has no site at the moment so I just get the directory listing.

Has anyone got any ideas about what is going wrong?

    Please.

Did the subfolder site work before you turned on domain mapping?

Which plugin are you using for mapping?

    Hi,

Yes it did work fine before I added domain mapping.

I'm using WordPress MU domain mapping plugin version 0.5.4.2

I get directed to the root directory of domain1, which has no site at the moment so I just get the directory listing.

Wait, where is WP installed on domain1?

It is installed in a sub-directory. The one for the add on domain.

I'm going to make some definitiions here, bear with me :)

Domain1.com - The original WordPress install
    domain1.com/subsite - Your child site.
    domain2.com - The domain mapped to domain1.com/subsite

Now. Assuming all that, where, on domain1, is WP installed? Is it in a subfolder like domain1.com/wordpress/ so that the CHILD site is domain1.com/wordpress/subsite?

    Not quite

domain1.com - main domain being hosted
domain2.com - addon domain with own subdir which is where WP is installed
    domain2.com/test - child site
domain3.com - domain to be mapped to domain.com/test

Thanks for having a look at this problem

domain3.com - domain to be mapped to domain.com/test

    You mean Domain2.com/test?

If domain2 is an add-on and lives in /public_html/domain2.com/ it SHOULD be fine. Iv'e done similar.

    Domain2.com/test works fine I presume.

If you want domain3 to work, though, I don't know if you can do it the same way, since domain1.com will 'catch' all traffic... Unless you can point 3 at 2...

    I do mean
domain3.com - domain to be mapped to domain2.com/test

    domain2.com/test works fine

I have pointed domain3.com at the main directory for domain2.com but still no joy.

It does appear that domain1 is catching the traffic because I am getting directed to the directory listing for the domain root. When I click on the domain2.com folder it directs me to the correct site but says that it can't find the file I'm looking for.

I think I might try moving the wordpress install (from domain2) to the domain1 root folder and then pointing domain2 at the domain1 root and point domain1 elsewhere.

    Regards

    Mark

Yeah, I think the problem is you're pointing to an add-on domain, and you may need to do some extra jiggery pokery with the DNS settings.
