In attempting to transfer my domain with bluehost for hosting services, I received a message that stated that within the last 5 days, the domain had been registered to "****** Domains, Inc.". I called ****** Domains and the dude there was less than helpful. He suggested that Bluehost or WP was a reseller and that's how his name was associated with my domain.

I bought the name through WP, had it on lockdown the whole time, and only unlocked it 5 minutes previous in order to input the transfer code. HALP!

OMG I am furious. I just spent an hour trying to talk to those con artists. They are holding my domain hostage. I bought my domain through WP, WHY does a reseller have it? WordPress, why does a reseller have my domain when I bought it through you?

Many companies use other registrars to register domains for their customers. They then are the contact point to that registrar, making sure that anything that needs to be done to edit information for that domain, or move it away, will be done.

Whomever you registered your domain through ought to be able to help you get it again. If not, you should be able to get information on who to contact to get it.

Working through resellers and registrars can be somewhat difficult sometimes, so persevere!

If you still have trouble after digging as deep as you are able, you may want to see about contacting ICANN.
