   It would appear that it doesn't work with custom post types in version 3.1.4. If I have both a custom post type and a product with the same category, it will show up in the drop down and if I click the item, I see both on the category page. But, if there's no post - only a custom post type - in a category, the category doesn't show up in the widget. Anyone else experience this?

   Okay, I don't think this has anything to do with 3.1.4 - I think it's actually a bug with the option:
   Expanding shows: Sub-categories and Posts vs. Just Sub-categories

   If you have it set to sub-categories and posts, then it doesn't work with custom post types. If you switch it to just sub-categories, it works.

   version 2.0 adds support for custom taxonomies and post types
