Does installation require modification to htaccess file? (2 posts)

I have successfully installed new themes on WordPress sites. But there is one site that is giving me trouble. I put the files in the correct folder and when I am logged in to WordPress, the new theme shows up under Available Themes. And I can apparently activate the theme. However, both in the preview before activation, and after activation, the blog then shows up as empty. Just a black screen.

This is not unique to the theme; it’s unique to the website. I have tried it with two different theme and get the same problem with both. Both themes can be installed on other sites with no problem.

I wonder if the installation modifies the .htaccess file or a security setting. This particular website was plagued with spam in the past, and we had someone install extra security – so that two sets of login names and passwords are needed to get in. The themes that were installed before that can be activated, but anytime I try to add a new theme I get the problem described above.

Does anyone know if the installation of a theme modifies the .htaccess or something similar? And could this be the problem here?

no - definitely not - themes do not modify .htaccess
though your .htaccess could have something preventing it being installed
