    do I need a webserver to try wordpress out. I just want to test the product to see if its right for me on a desktop version if there’s such a thing plus i dont have a webserver yet and dont want to spend to have one and dont know if this is the product for me

  • Yes, a webserver running on your computer is necessary.

    The only other thing I could suggest if you just want to try it out for a little bit, is to look into something like Instant WordPress, which is a complete standalone, portable WordPress development environment that turns any Windows machine into a WordPress development server.

    so if i design something with this instant version and decide I like the program will it be easy to transfer my work to to the “real” version?

    Yes but it’s a bit more involved then just uploading files to a remote server. See http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress

    It won’t be easy to transfer — especially if you’ve never worked with WordPress before.

    You should use Instant WordPress just to test, to see if it’s right for you. If it is, then you should just invest some time in setting up a “proper” WordPress install.
