I am currently webhosting shopping for a wordpress blog I'm planning to launch this month. The question I have is do I need to have an SSL? Currently I have an e-commerce website and know I need a SSL for the authorize.net credit card transactions but even the certain areas of the admin screen need it. Is the same true for WordPress? I Just want to find out so I can find out what type of web hosting package I need.

Nope, I don't have an ssl and it runs fine. Please see the following link for detailed information about what to seek out in a hosting provider:

On the other hand, if anywhere in the WP blog you are going to collect sensitive info on your users or have others log in or submit info, you may have to keep it secure... but for just a blog, the only concern is getting hacked.
