Support » Localhost Installs » Do I need a multisite for 2 identical sites in 2 different languages?

  • Please bear with me I’m a totally newbie on this.

What I want to do is to have locally two identical wp sites for testing (one in english and the other one in spanish) and link them together with a flag icon or something like that so they could point to one another’s home page.

I installed WP locally with MAMP, everything went fine.

I did 2 installations of wp as subdirectories of htdocs like mamp/htdocs/wordpress1 and mamp/htdocs/wordpress2 each one with their own db.

Originally I wanted to install wp as a multisite but I couldn’t do it locally, I changed the ports etc.. added the line “allow_multisite” with no luck, the “network” menu wouldn’t come up in wp, so I figured out that it’s not possible to install wp as a multisite in a localhost which I’ve read many people had the same problem.

Probably I’m doing something wrong since as you can tell I’m really a newbie on these matters, what I’ve done is just from searching as crazy and reading what other people say about this.

My two local sites localhost:8888/wordpress1 and localhost:8888/wordpress2 don’t seem to be happy together since many times as I’m logged on both of them at the same time something happen and one of them is not working properly.

I imagine that what I need is just that, a multisite running on just one wp installation (I don’t care about wp being in one language or the other), 2 sites totally identical but in different languages that I can point to one another for people who are english or spanish speaking, but maybe there’s a better way to accomplish this through another way.

Sorry for the lenght of the post, I would really really appreciate if someone could tell me what direction to take to solve this problem.
