[resolved] Do I need a child theme if I'm commenting lines out of functions.php? (4 posts)

I am using a theme which has a framework and a child theme already. To customise the site the way I want it, I've commented some lines out of functions.php. Of course the last time I updated the theme, the changes to functions.php were lost.

I have read that I can create a child theme for when I want to ADD to functions.php. What do I do when I want to REMOVE stuff?! Thanks.

Try copying the entire functions.php file to your child theme and remove the lines. Review: http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes

Thanks, Krishna. I had already read that one several times, but it says that you shouldn't just copy the code but only add new stuff, so I was worried that there would be some kind of conflict with having two versions.

Martcol, I'll have to spend some time reading that but it looks like it could get me on the right track. Thanks!
