DNS not yet propagated, can I still use wordpress... (7 posts)

I connected my host to my domain yesterday, as yet the site has not been propagated. I have installed wordpess via fantastico in cPanel X and I am led to believe that you can still work on your site whilst the DNS propagates however I don't seem to be able to log into wordpress to start work on the site; I have no idea if this is normal or if I am doing something wrong.

I realise that this is potentially a very open ended question so suggestions very much appreciated.

I don't think that's possible, as you'll have to access your wordpress-dashboard via your domain (www.domain.com/wp-login.php), but as the DNS is not propagated its not possible... Nevertheless, you can make all sorts of changes within your server, add files, etc.

thanks...I was hoping that was the problem, thanks, now all I have to do is to figure out how the heck you add files via c Panel X lol.

Did your hosts provide you with a temporary url? If so, you could use that for now and then change the site url when the DN has propagated.

yes... I did get the temporary url http://50.22.131.64/~simplyvi/ even with that though I cannot log onto wordpress to edit the site.

I checked the wordpress login address and it uses the as yet unpropogated domain http://simplyvital.net/wp-login.php

In that case, you'll need to wait until the DNS updates. It should be complete in another 24 hrs or so.
