I have a div that just won't accept any css styles. I've checked everything numerous times and emptied the WP and Browser's cache numerous times, but the darn div just won't be nice. The div has a class of "siteHeader" and only contains an h1 element and a nav. I'm trying to set up a generic wordpress theme for my personal use just want to get everything in order =-). In the screenshot you can see that the div takes no orders from the stylesheet. Here is the code:

    html: http://pastebin.com/99s6tLsY
    CSS: http://pastebin.com/L2vLqfHB
    Screenshot: http://snag.gy/MgIIz.jpg

Would love some help with this. Thanks in advance!

Please provide a live site link for CSS help. It is exceedingly easier for seasons folks here to help with a link. If you choose not to share a specific URL, create a live test site and share that - create 'example' content to test with.

    My standard note:

To discover what CSS is output by your theme, use a web inspection tool such as Firebug: http://getfirebug.com/ , Chrome Inspect Element: https://developers.google.com/chrome-developer-tools/ or Internet Explorer 9+ F12 Dev. Tools: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd565627(v=vs.85).aspx#csstool

    There are others.

When editing CSS, use a Child Theme

Custom CSS Plugin, or Theme provided custom CSS option.
Edits to parent themes are lost on theme update.
