Displaying blog on index

I havent coded much in the past couple years and Im totally new to wp. Id like to have the blog post directly into a div class on my index page but Im at a loss as to how.
I searched around everywhere and at one point I moved all wp files into the main directory and got rid of the index.html file.. but then realized I was stuck at how to edit the index.php file within wp to put the content into the div.
I apologize for my complete lack of knowledge lol.
