   Simple one but I don't see the answer anywhere. What is the maximum possible length of the user's display_name? I have another system that the display_name is passed to which needs to know the maximum length.

   I believe that the appropriate length would be stored somewhere in the DB Schema.

   Check the PHP reference to see how to do this...

   From looking at my own database schema, it appears the answer is 250 characters.

   Two things surprise me. The first is that this, and similar restrictions, are not in the documentation. The second is that the profile edit form in WordPress does not appear to have any maxlength values on the inputs.
