   I'd like to have the posts on my main page display as a grid of thumbnails. I've tried doing this using Automatic Post Thumb plug-in and fooling around with the CSS to make the post css float left and match the thumbnail size. This hasn't worked for me. Maybe I should be adjusting the PHP files. Any ideas or tips?

   Try a plugin called Posts Per Cat (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/posts-per-cat/).

   Limited to two columns .... but maybe that will suffice?

   It's very easy to setup with a custom field for thumbnails and custom PHP in the template file(s). I've done it for a number of sites.
