Display post only if certain category page?

    Hello,

    I am a confused WP newbie. I have a parent category “Events” with 3 subcategories.

    On my parent Events category page, all I want to display are today’s events from any of these subcategories (if any) and links to my subcategories.

    It looks like only posts associated with a template get displayed (?), so I haven’t been able to set up a separate page template. (Or am I missing something?)

    Should I add some IF – ElSE code to the archive.php page?

    And the main question: HOW do I reference this category page (or any other page) so that it only gets executed for the Events page?
