Display only one category on main index? (4 posts)

Hi all, forgive if this is a stupid question, but I'm not having any luck finding the answer -
I have five categories on my site, but only want the contents of one of them displayed on the main index page - for the rest of them, I want people to have to use the links on the side. Is there an easy way to do this?
    Best,
    James

You'll find an easy solution in the WordPress Wiki.

This works fine, until I go to the "advanced editing" section of a new post, which generates this:
Warning: Cannot add header information - headers already sent by (output started at /var/www/.../my-hacks.php:6) in /var/www/.../wp-admin/post.php on line 158
    Any thoughts?

Whitespace in your my-hacks file? Make sure there is nothing before <?php and after ?>
