I'm using wordpress for a makeshift CMS. so I need the posts to remain in their perspective categories.

what needs to be done so that the initial page does not display all categories, but just displays one of my choosing?

I know this is probably easy, but I've never used wordpress before. I looked around in the FAQ and tried searching the forums with no luck...

    thanks in advance,

    ~ Jeff

P.S. I no next to nothing about PHP, so keep that in mind when explaining...

Perhaps just use the "asides" idea and turn it around?

Asides are selectively formatting one specific category. Just change the code to display only one category would be what you want, wouldn't it?

I seem to recall that home.php is used specifically as the initial page. Maybe only make changes there?

Just some ideas...I'm not that into PHP either.

  3. You will need to make a small edit to you theme's "Main" or "Index" template. See: http://codex.wordpress.org/The_Loop#Exclude_Posts_From_Some_Category

Thanks so much. so now I have (a) the index template that works, but does not include my theme, and (b) the index template that includes my theme, but does not work.

as I am PHP retarded, I have no idea how to do it. I tried to copy and replace the lines that sounded relevant with no luck... It just gives me errors.

This is the only roadblock for me now, thanks for all the help. I know how annoying newbie questions can be, so I do really appreciate it.
