   I imported entries from MT some time ago, so there are display name options as 'admin'. I also have display name 'chris'.

   How can I change the display name? I.e. entirely new, not using existing from drop-down?

   I have looked in MySql, in the wp_users table, there is a field called display_name, I changed this but it still shows the old names listed.

   Any ideas?

   Two things to check:

   - Look at Dashboard -> Users -> Your Profile. There will be a drop down selection of which name you want displayed.

   - Which theme are you using? Some themes hard code which name that they display. You might have to reedit either the theme or your profile to get the wanted one to display.

   Hi

   Thanks. For some reason it took ages to update. I had emptied cache and had to log in as a different user and then back in again to see the results. This works now (changing it in MySql, would be good to see as a feature in admin area).

   Well the admin lets you select from a dropdown, but not change the text for the display name.

   Sure it will :-)

   Click on Users -> Your profile.

   Enter a new Nickname and safe. Hey presto - it's in the dropdown list now.
