Discovery Theme Update Corrupts Site

I have the discovery theme 1.4.6 and when I upgrade to 1.6 my site becomes completely different. The colors change, the links change, and I have to restore to my most recent backup. For now I’m sticking with not updating the theme, but I imagine I probably can’t do that forever. Anything I can do so that the update doesn’t completely ruin my site? The site is sugartoothtours.com. I have a screenshot of what the site looks like when I update the theme that I could send if someone needs to see what happens.
