Disappearing type in admin panel edit window?? (9 posts)

Help! I must have pushed some button because the type in the edit window in the admin panel in both wysiwyg and html views suddenly became invisible. All I can see are the little red lines under words the spellchecker is questioning. It's as if I turned the type to white. Does anyone know what I did and how to undo it?

    Thanks,
    Lily

    Try working through this list:

    I'm betting it's a plugin...

You know, I saw people saying that, so I tried deactivating all of them, and it made no difference. What it is, is the WYSIWYG toolbar has disappeared, and when I log onto a post to edit, nothing appears in either screen, WYS or HTML. Then, when I click in the HTML screen, the code comes up, but when I switch to the other one, I get html there as well, and still it's just the HTML toolbar up there.

I really had a feeling that it was something I'd done; as if I hit the wrong button and it disappeared. Is that possible?

    It's very scary. :(

Esmi, thank you for answering. I tried deactivating all the plugins again, and it didn't make a difference.

One correction: the html screen is visible right away. It's just that the WYSIWYG view is invisible and the toolbar is gone. Then, if you clock on it, it comes up html.

I didn't understand the directions about trying to reset the plugins folder in MyPhp or FTP. I'm not that sophisticated, I'm afraid.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks,
    Lily

I didn't understand the directions about trying to reset the plugins folder in MyPhp or FTP.

Sometimes, it's the only way to stop an otherwise inactive plugin from continuing to cause problem.

Perhaps watching a video would help - courtesy of figaro:

The next option (apart from trying the default theme) would to re-upload fresh copies of the wp-admin and wp-includes directory in case you have a damaged file somewhere. Again, that needs FTP I'm afraid.

Esmi--thank you, it's a wonderful video. But I tried that and it didn't work. And I tried switching to the default theme and back. Then I tried re-uploading those files. That didn't solve the problem either. What do I do?

There are a number of steps in the first post of the thread below that you could try:

I'm sorry--and I'm doing this why? This problem evidently has been going on for months. I'm not a computer professional or web developer; I'm a writer. Why should I have to go through all this? This is insane.

Sorry, Esmi, I know that you're just another member trying to help me, and this isn't by any means directed at you. Forgive my bewilderment and frustration.

Our other site has just become unstable and non-functional as well. And there were no plugins at all activated on that one. They'd all been deactivated.
