I’m not using threaded replies (default behaviour, isn’t it ?) and it works here.

I’m very sure. It’s the craziest thing. If I enable threaded (nested) replies then my pagination doesn’t work, however, it removes the functionality of the pencil unread though the bars are still visible. It does register the thread being read if you are the last user to post in it though.
However, when I enable threaded replies, pencil unread works the way you intended. No plugins that are associated with bbpress look to be effecting this as I have deactivated any bbpress plugin I have for troubleshooting purposes.
I’m sorry that my situation is causing such problem. I was only trying to get my pagination to work. Threaded replies, both enabled and disabled, seem to be the issue.

Have you had a chance to review what the issue could be? BBPress Pencil Unread only works when you enable threaded (nested) replies for the forums. Unfortunately, the way BBPress is set up, when you enable threaded (nested) replies you remove the pagination functionality and are then left with one very long thread.
This makes it very difficult to implement this plugin when we have to choose between pagination and or very long threads. The latter never is liked very much by visitors and causes them to not come back.
Can you please help out with this? I would gladly donate and give a good review if this were fixed.
