Under Options>Discussion I disabled Trackbacks by unchecking “Allow link notifications from other Weblogs (pingbacks and trackbacks).”.

Yet I’m still getting some spam trackbacks coming through. How is this happening?

    Thanks,
    John

that particular option only applies to future posts’ defaults. you can delete/rename the wp-trackbacks.php file or edit each post and uncheck the appropriate boxes. there also may be a few plugins that will do the job.

Trackbacks and comments can be enabled or disabled on a per-post basis. That setting just determines whether the box is checked or not by default. Disabling trackbacks means editing every post to turn off trackbacks for that post.

Or just run anti-spam plugins and leave trackbacks on. Bad Behavior. Akismet. Spam Karma 2. These all stop spam.

Thanks, guys. I have Akismet, which stops about 600 spam posts per day. Which other plugin is best suited to complement Akismet?

Bad Behavior works very well for me.

I tried installing BB, but when I went to activate it, it began DE-activating other plugins! Strange, but it turned off Image Manager, Akismet, then my audio plugin. After turning off BB, I could reactivate the other plugins; but it happened again when I gave BB another try.

In any event, I installed Spam Karma 2 and it worked perfectly. Seems like a great plugin and ought to thin the herd of spam that Akismet keeps having to deal with everyday.
