Directory switch Error
-
After a successful installation I was watching a tutorial on switching a directory for a wp blog from http://www.example.com to http://www.example.com/blog.
Just curious, I looked at my wp url in settings to see what it looked like.
In my settings > general My site url was posted as http://www.example.com. I was confused because under my FTP documentation on my host’s server, my wordpress files were in a folder called “blog” already. Although now I wish I hadn’t, I then did as the video instructed and changed the ending of the site url (ex. http://www.example.com : http://www.example.com/blog)
I saved, and got an immediate error. This would normally be fine IF my files weren’t already in a location titled “blog” on my host’s server.
After getting the error, I went back into my settings and attempted to switch the url back it was (just http://www.example.com) in settings > general. At this point, I am not sure whether the change was made, or if my site account was saved with the first change I made listed above.
Now WP looks like a mobile site when I visit the url, and I cannot log in.
My question is, what do I do at this point to know which setting was last saved. Should I move my wordpress files w/ my FTP client? Should I delete it all and re-install, and is that even possible? I’m willing to do whatever it takes because I won’t be losing any data. It is a blank blog still at this point.
I seriously appreciate any insight. Thank you.
