I want to direct the wp-login page to a 404 page. How can I do this using the htaccess file.
2 reasons I want to do this.
My site is being hammered with over 1000 attempts a day, to login using wp-login page.
Secondly. I have a register, login and lost password links on the home page, so I do not need the wp-login page.
I have seen the redirect plugin but would prefer to use the htaccess file.
    Thanks

I'm reasonably sure that redirecting the login page will brak things. Why not just install the Limit Login plugin?

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/limit-login-attempts/

It's very effective and will lock out the IP addresses of people who attempt to break in.
