• Hi

I wondered if anyone could help a novice!

I would like to create a site which is subscription only. Once a user is subscribed, they have access to the site and the option to download individual or bundled legal documents. These documents need to change periodically, so I want to go in an re-upload new pdf’s. Once their subscription ends, I need to block access to the site.

To confuse matters (only for me hopefully), I would also like another option (or would this have to be another site..???) where different customers can ‘Pay As You Go’ – so they can go in (again password protected – I would like to control who has access), but then they can buy just what they need – individual documents or bundles.

I hope someone can help me – just a gentle nudge in the right direction would be most appreciated.

  • I’d look into Easy Digital Downloads, WooCommerce, WPMU’s Membership, or s2Member. I’m very partial to EDD and WooCommerce, but WMPU does a great job too, when you need it (I see a lot of freelance work related to s2, which I guess means it’s popular, but then it also probably means it’s complex to configure). For payment processing, look into Paypal or Mijireh. There are other good options as well (Authorize.net, etc). The key thing to note is that, as a novice, you probably don’t want to deal with security on your site… something you may very well want to outsource. EDD and WC both integrate with Paypal, Mijireh, and many other payment platforms… so you should be fine (the other two do as well, but I haven’t used them as much in the first case, or at all in the second)
