I have followed the instructions on just about every guide to enabling multisite that I can find, but my site keeps throwing up errors.

I have downloaded wp-config.php and added define('WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE', true); to it. When I upload the newly edited wp-config.php to my site the homepage and admin page give various parse errors and call to undefined errors.

My site refuses to work with any wp-config.php file other than the one that was on it originally.

The only idea I can come up with as to what might be the problem is that something has changed between version 3.0 and version 3.0.3.

Can I revert to 3.0 in some way? I haven’t made a single change to my site since upgrading to 3.0.3 from 2.7.1 (or something similar, I can’t remember what version I was using before).

    Any other suggestions?

Nothing to do with multisite was changed between those versions.

Those issues you’re describing sound more like *hosting* issues than anything else.

Did you ask your host if they will let you enable it?
have you tried editing the file directly on the server?
If you’re copy/pasting from Windows, you’re getting the wrong quotes. you want straight (like above) not curly quotes.
What text editor are you using? Some will mess your config file up.
WHERE in the file are you putting it? at the very top or very bottom is a no-no.

Every single issue involved with adding the first line to the config file is either user error or server setup.

Thank you. Editing the file on the server has done the trick, oddly enough.

    You’re a genius!

Not according to my kids, but thanks. 😀
