Difficult custom menu question (5 posts)

This is a horrible question (so bear with me) hence the hours I've spent trying to re-word my searches and find the right solution.

Does WordPress have the ability to create a different top menu per webpage?

For example: I create a page to do with video games and all the top menu items are video game related.

But then I navigate to my page about blu-rays and there the top menu changes to show blu-ray menu options.

And further still with other subjects. Let's say for arguments sake that I want a lot of different top menus; all on different pages. How easy is this to achieve?

    Thank you for any advice!

In theory, yes. The exact approach depends upon how the menu is being generated.

What solutions are open to me with regard to how WordPress can generate menus? Would it be best to use a plugin?

I'm afraid I don't know of any good menu plugins as I normally go for the coded route. You could try looking at some of the available menu functions such as:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_page_menu
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_list_pages
Also see Navigation_Menus, custom page templates and http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_sidebar The latter allows to call from a range of custom sidebars via custom page templates or conditionals.

Ok thanks. I did see a plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/display-widgets/ but it appears to be only on the side of the screen. I'll read up on the pages you linked. Thanks.

Edit: Quite hard reading for a beginner but I thank you all the same. I will try and get my head around it. In the meantime if anyone can offer simple advice, that would be great. I've seen others searching for this online but not really any easy to use solutions.
