    Hi James,

I have hundreds of projects that I need to group by project types, each with its own categories. I don’t know how you could create different instances of portfolio types. but, I thought I could work around this problem using Projects’ shortcodes. That is, I would create different pages for each portfolio type and use the “exclude_categories” to only show the projects I want. However, I’m not sure what it is that you refer as to category ID? I’ve tried the category name and the slug without success. What am I missing? and is there a better way of doing this? For your reference, I would like to arrange my portfolios like I do in Canvas – e.g: http://www.hugotiles.com

    Thanks

    Hey,

Personally, I would still use categories for this. Each ‘project type’ would be a parent category, with sub categories to further split the projects up.

You need to use the actual category ID with the exclude_categories parameter in the shortcode. To get the ID navigate to the category in the dashboard and check the URL. the ID will be present there.
