Twenty Twelve
Different Color for Blog Background (15 posts)

I'm trying to get the background of the blog posts to be a different color than the background of the pages.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

I would start with using a utility like Firebug to locate the CSS that you will need to change. Make sure you make a child theme to make any of your changes on. And then maybe start with the Css id of content.. try adding some colors there and see if that is what you want.

    Hi dragonsjaw -

I'm familiar with Firebug and CSS - but twenty twelve is coded so that both the post and the page content use the same background. I can't for the life of me figure out how to change it -- the theme is nothing if not convoluted in the way that it is coded.

Any more specific help would be greatly appreciated.

    THanks!

You can target those separately using more specific selectors in the CSS for the background. Look for a class specfic to "post" or "page" or post a link to your site and someone can likely help.

But what if I want to make ALL of the posts be a different color than the pages?

If you post a link to your site, you'll get a better answer. Generally, there is a class assigned to all posts (but not pages).

    I'm sorry! I thought I had.

Try using this as the selector in the CSS:

    .site-content article.type-post

But you really need to backtrack and stop making any changes to the theme files -- they will all be erased when WP is updated. Instead, you need to be using a Child Theme for any modifications:

Thank you! I plan on doing that when I'm done, before I transfer it to it's final home.

How do you know which CSS (or other) code you've changed?

    I've got a running list.

Hi guys! Is there a way to have every other post to have a different background color?

Yes, probably, but you'll need to start a new thread, include a link to your site and have a child theme set up before making any changes.
