Difference between <www> and <http://> domains

I’ve been maneuvering through the settings of my host/wordpress. I was wondering if there is any difference between including <www> or just using <http://>
an example would be http://www.themodernaesthete.com
or http://themodernaesthete.comIs there a difference?
