is there a file in the wordpress directory (or sub-directory) that I can read that will tell me what the current version of WP is?
The footer at the bottom of the admin pages just says "Get WordPress 2.6.2" but that doesn't help me know what version is currently running.
Yeah, I agree: one message at the top shouold be enough and the devs should have left the version number unaltered at the bottom. It was a not-so-wise decision...
Anyway, /wp-includes/version.php

thanks - and yeah - they could have just said something like "This is WordPress version 2.6.1, please upgrade to 2.6.2"
