Deleting Akismet Spam

I upgraded a few days ago both my WordPress version and my Akismet version. No comments were showing for moderation. Thank you to I’m not sure whom who gave step-by-step directions on how to do it. I knew nothing about mysql databases or php, and still don’t, but finally figured it out.

However, I still can’t get rid of the spam. There are 56 comments marked as spam and growing by the hour. I can do it manually if I go into the database now that I know how, but I would like for it work on my Admin panel. Anyone have a fix.

All that happens is that once the delete key is hit, the screen goes blank for a minute and the admin screen comes back with all the spam still there.
