I'm a SCAD student and need to use WordPress for an assignment. I was having trouble with the layout and couldn't customize it, so I tried to delete it to start over. However, since I only have the one username [redacted] that's supposed to follow me my entire time at SCAD I can't make a new site. I don't know what to do. That site is going to be 40% of my grade. Please help!

It is actually impossible to write here in details for security. There are points of setup for university server setups which should not be disclosed here. It is a .edu site and typically we usually get some odd things.

Never use same username everywhere, even do not disclose it.

Is this a wordpress.com site or a self-hosted WordPress install? Is it an email address issue?

  4. I'm reasonably sure asmith72 means this one http://blog.scad.edu/asmith72/ but that's a guess on my part...

@asmith72 If that's the case then you'll need to contact your school admin for assistance with that.

Please remove the link to website, it will attract the spammers.

I am quite keen to learn where from I can know about the rule, that asking to contact a student personally for free help must return - "Do not solicit personal contact from other forum users. Comment moderated". I am asking with the wish to help make.wordpress.org in my spare time.

I'm not sure what you mean when you ask, "where from I can know about the rule" because the first Codex page you linked talks about, "Soliciting professional (for pay) assistance".

Anyway, this ought to be discussed within your own thread.

These are community forums. Every post contributes towards the greater community knowledge. Encouraging people to move off the forums and use skype, email or other forms of one-to-one communication offers no benefit to the wider community.

General rule of thumb: support around here happens here.

Secondly, not everyone who uses a public forum does so with the best of intentions. Sad but true. Some use forums as a way to solicit paid work. Encouraging posters to contact them via email for "more support" is often the first step in this. So, again this is something we discourage.

Please understand that there is no one is implying that you had anything other than the best intentions in this case. It's simply that we do not wish to set any precedents. If anyone wishes to contact you directly, they can do so via the details in your Profile page - reached by clicking the Member link under your username.

Thank you for contributing to the forums and for making http://wordpress.org/support a better community. :-)

  8. Please remove the link to website, it will attract the spammers.

And I'm definitely unsure what you mean by that. Remove what link? There's nothing here that would attract spammers.

Edit: Never mind, Esmi has the best reply. ;)

Because I wrote OP about Free help, not paid. Offering paid is not allowed.
It was an exceptional case, that was the reason to ask the student to contact. Normally Codex help page would work for normal case. Otherwise who will take the headache of others' via email, to be honest.

Anyway, this out to be discussed within your own thread.

"Topics and their discussions must be related to WordPress and providing support for users of WordPress. All other topics are subject to closing or deletion."

I am not WordPress user in this case, instead a solution provider. It has no direct relationship with WordPress software but the problem is becoming the fine line of difference of a regular supporter and just a member.

Openly I can not say - email this person, I telling him your issue to fix. I have some administrative connection with the main domain ! Thats why I wrote - "Never use same username everywhere, even do not disclose it." The person is basically using exact username and exact number of password characters in most places. When he said SCAD, I simply logged in. Otherwise I how I will know that the use same username everywhere and warn him not to disclose it publicly.

I wrote a bit in a generalized way in my previous reply.
