Deleted everything from my FTP (6 posts)

    Kind people,

I'm a total stooge when it comes to these things. I had everything installed and working but I hadn't fixed my index, so all I saw on my site was the 'this page is ready, replace with your own index' or something. And instead of rationally fixing that problem I deleted everything from my FTP (filezilla), and when I put everything back I got the 404 not found notice when trying to view the site. So then I went to my database and deleted that and made a new one and put the whole wp file back in and I'm still getting stonewalled by the 404 not found guy. Is there a way I can start over completely? What are my options here?

    Much appreciated.

    Hi Bhbundy,

I would try resetting your htaccess file.

    1. Login to your server via ftp.
    2. Backup your current htaccess file.
    3. Delete it, and see if your server recreates a new one.
    4. Read this thread. It helped me when this happened to me.

    Hope this helps.

Right now I cant access the wordpress admin for my site, pocketsounds.org. http://pocketsounds.org/wp-admin/ pops up as 404 not found. I'm using filezilla and I cant seem to find the htaccess file. I tried creating a new one called .htaccess and it dissappeared (I think because files with a period first are hidden?). I don't have any content uploaded yet, I just completed the install and while trying to fix the index problem I deleted everything from filezilla and tried to reload it. After that I've been stuck with the 404.

Is there a way I can restart from the beginning? Clean slate?
